Crisis At Inspiration FM As Chaz B, Shola Thompson, Oscar, Others Leave + Reasons For Mass Resignation

Bad news for struggling Lagos based radio station Inspiration FM 92.3 and its many listeners as a mass exodus of top staff might be ruining the year for them.

NET has discovered that a healthy number of workers including top radio presenters like Charles ‘Chaz B’ Bruce, Shola Thompson, Ada ‘Folustorm’ Ogunkeye and Shayo have all left the Victoria Island based station since February.
Insiders tell us the staff who left were very displeased with the way management ran the radio station and were practically fed up.

According to those who spoke with Nigerian Entertainment Today, the company, owned by disgraced former MD of defunct Intercontinental Bank Erastus Akingbola was ‘no longer moving in the right direction’.
It’s over two years now since founding GM Wale Ewedemi left the station. And NET sources say some of the issues of that time still prevail, including external influence and, allegedly, a domineering management.
‘There are too many friends of Akingbola on the board that are doing nothing, they just sit there and make tacky decisions’, a staff who’d rather remain anonymous told NET over the weekend.
‘There were many ideas the staff would bring up, innovative ideas but they’d always play it down. It became too frustrating for some so I don’t blame those who left. They often acted completely clueless’.

Popular and seasoned OAP Shola Thompson who left the station for good in February (a few days after returning from his official leave) says the station’s management seemed not to have new ideas to take the station to the next level.

‘I don’t understand why we couldn’t take the station to the next level, we kept coming up with ideas and every single one we brought got shot down’, the former Rhythm FM OAP told NET over the phone. Thompson had been made ‘Head of Programmes’ while senior colleague Chaz B was away on medical treatment.

Chaz B also left this March, sources say, for same reasons. The presenter who anchors the very popular show ‘Sharing Life Issues’ opened up on how he left Inspiration. Explaining to his fans via Facebook he revealed that he gave a 30 day notice of resignation on March 1, 2013 with the intention to leave April 1, 2013 for his official vacation.
He was however shocked when the ‘Chairman’ told management on March 4, to pay him off and relieve him of his duties the very next day (March 5) and asked to leave the premises immediately.

‘I want all of you to know that I miss you and that I love you very much. I would NEVER just leave you the way it happened. However, look out for bigger and better things to come. I promise you’ll be hearing from me again on a much wider platform. Remain blessed’, Chaz wrote in a touching note to his many fans.

Folustorms who temporarily got her face on cable TV as a top finalist at the recently held MTV Base VJ Search has also thrown in the towel. ‘She’s got a bigger deal somewhere, what is she staying back for?’, a friend close to her told NET.

Another person who said ‘bye-bye’ last February is Shayo due to a conflict of interest. The sports analyst anchored the Sports Edge program. Apparently, Shayo was an anchor on a syndicated show that ran on other stations. The management weren’t pleased with this.

‘I’m fine with Inspiration. I’m moving on to achieve my personal goals. If I’m still there, I wouldn’t move on. Now I’m out, I can focus more on my events planning. It was a personal decision to leave’, Shayo told NET.

And another OAP Gbemileke ‘Oscar’ Oyinsan who has been with Inspiration for many years, has also left. He’s now pitched his tent with City FM as head of programmes.

Sources say another reason why the station hasn’t been able to breakthrough is that its brand  is constantly being seen as a Gospel radio station. A huge part of that ‘blame’, those who spoke to us insist, goes to Dan Foster.

‘Dan brought this whole gospel feel to the station and made it quite popular, so people think the station is gospel-themed which is not.  Now, because he is an ‘oyinbo’ man, the management can’t lay a finger on him’, another staff says.

Dan is one of the highest-paid OAPs in Nigeria. He moved from Cool FM to Inspiration on a N12m per annum deal, along with official residence and choice car.

We also spoke to an OAP who’s still working there. Wana Udobang says ‘everybody has a right to make decisions. We all have different paths, so I wish everybody the best’.

All calls and text messages directed to one of the station’s directors, veteran broadcaster Soni Iraborwere not responded to as at Sunday. The station also failed to respond to email enquiries. But we confirmed that they’ve already started auditioning for new talent to take over from the departed staff…

Who is your favourite Nigerian footballer?

(smiles) I don’t want to mention names. Whenever I am watching a football match, instead of enjoying the game, I derive joy in watching how the players’ ‘thing’ dangle in their shorts and their muscles too. It’s romantic indeed. It trips me and you know what it means and the consequence…

Dr Sid Responds To His Leaked Conversation About D'banj With Davido

Last weekend, a secret recording in which Dr Sid & Wande coal were engaged in a heated argument over Dbanj's contribution to Mohits went viral.

In the recording, Dr SID is heard talking in a rather upset tone about how his former label boss D’banj’s personality was over-shining his and the rest of the crew members.

Few hours ago, Dr Sid took to Twitter to explain that incident. Here's what he has to say:

Hi tweeps hope everyone is having a good day?

Please permit me to address the issue of the recording that was released this weekend.

I had a PRIVATE conversation with people I trusted (Kamal, Dbanjs' associate Evil, Godfather, Davido, B-Red).

I'm entitled to my opinion and its unfortunate that this happened…

Sadly, someone chose to record this private conversation and release it to the public.

However, this has taught me a valuable lesson on who to and not to speak with, but life must go on...

Uche Jombo Endorses Upcoming Actress, Ruth Kadiri As Her Successor

When in Matthew 3:17 John the Baptist in the Holy Bible told his followers "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. that the one coming after him," not many thought he was referring to Jesus Christ. But when Jesus Christ started his work, he wowed many to their admiration.

At a time when some fans and Nollywood addicts are craving for new faces to take over from already established figures in the make-believe industry in Nigeria, superstar actress, Uche Jombo has revealed to NEWSMEN 'the 'Jesus Christ' coming to take over from her, just like John The Baptist in the Holy Bible.

NEWSMEN caught up with the recently married screen goddess at an event held last weekend. Uche was asked who among the up and coming actress she thinks can take over from her. The script writer cum actress and producer didn't hesitate in introducing one Ruth Kadiri, who Uche said can take over from her.

Asked the attributes she saw in the budding actress for her to have endorsed her. Uche said, "when I started, I was a script writer and an actress. This separated me from other actresses. It took me close to six years to see someone that could step into that.

"I acted in a film she (Ruth) wrote 'Mad Sex'. She was just starting then and that was the first time I came across a script written by her though she has written several others before. I saw the potentials in her as a script writer but when I saw her act, I was convinced she 'could be the next Uche Jombo' (our words). So, I encouraged her."

Will Ruth Kadiri be the 'Jesus Christ' that will do greater things John The Baptist (Uche Jombo) did? Fingers crossed

Nollywood Actor, Osufia, In Trouble Over Widow's House Demolition

A secondary school teacher, Mrs. Gloria Ayogu, on Sunday said she would consider legal actions against Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, if he failed to pay damages for allegedly demolishing her house in Enugu State.

Mrs Ayogu, a widow and an employee of Federal Government College, Enugu, has since 2008 been at war with Osuofia over a piece of land at 9, Ikpeama Street, Emeheluaku Layout, Trans-Ekulu in Enugu metropolis.

The widow said she had long reported the case to the police and vowed to see the matter to the end.

She said her late husband bought and registered the landed property before he died in 2004. She claimed, “Osuofia and his thugs appeared in 2008 and threatened me for four years against building on the land.”

According to her, shortly after she completed the bungalow, which she said she built with a loan, and was on the verge of moving in, “Osuofia finally made good his threats and pulled down the house on September 30, 2012.”

Narrating her story further, Mrs Ayogu said, “The property was bought same year my husband died and was registered in his name. We started developing it until my husband took ill and later died, about three months after we relocated from where we were living.

“Some years later I discovered that the documents to the property were missing. I searched everywhere but could not find them. I went to the man who sold the land to us and he advised that I report to the state Ministry of Lands. I went there and they asked me to put up a newspaper publication on the missing document, which I did in about three different newspapers.

“I first went to the police and obtained police extract before the loss of document was published. I also put a caveat on the property so that no buyer would come in case people attempted to use it for fraud.

“We were living at Egwuaga Street then, so we relocated to 9, Ikpeama Street in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. The land registrar gave me new documents covering the property and he advised me to be vigilant and look after my land.

“In 2006, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia and some people came to ask me who I was and if I was the owner of the property.”

Ayogu stated that Osuofia also asked her if she was legally married to her late husband, and if she was ready to go to court should the need arise.

She said, “I didn’t see them for some time until one day he resurfaced and said I have to stop work on the site because at that time I had started building. Not long afterwards, he demolished the house.”

Ayogu added that she would not be intimidated and was not ready to lose the only property her late husband left for her and her children.

However, when contacted by the Punch, the actor denied the allegations. Osuofia said, “This woman is going to put herself in trouble. I bought a land and the land is causing trouble between the woman and her husband’s first wife. They are struggling over the same piece of land, so why would the woman say it was me that demolished her house?”

“Why is she trying to scandalise my name when she knows there is a family dispute over the land? I don’t know anything about the demolition. I bought the property but they are having problems there, I mean the two wives. Why wouldn’t this woman go to court and sort these things out once and for all?”

While Osuofia insisted Mrs Ayogu and her co-wife were struggling over the land, the widow said Osuofia is a cheap liar. She maintained that she was the only wife of her husband and that there was no family tussle over the land.

Strangely, when Osuofia was asked to give the contacts of whoever sold the land to him, he said it was long he bought the land and had lost touch with the people.
