Nigerian Billionaire Beats Oprah Winfrey As The richest Black Woman In The World with $7.3b Oil Wealth

It has been reported and confirmed that Nigerian oil tycoon Folorunsho Alakija is now the richest black woman in the world with an estimated fortune of $7.3 billion.
Pan-African magazine, Ventures recently announced that Africa boasts 55 billionaires and they're worth a staggering $143.88 billion in total.

Starting her career as a secretary in a bank in the mid 1970s, Alakija, 62, then studied fashion in London and returned to Nigeria to start a label, Supreme Stitches. But her biggest break came in oil.

In 1993, her company, Famfa Oil, was awarded an oil prospecting license, which later became OML 127, one of the country's most prolific oil blocks, by then-president Ibrahim Babangida.
The company owned a 60 per cent stake in the block until 2000 when the Nigerian government unconstitutionally acquired a 50 per cent interest without duly compensating Alakija or Famda Oil.

In May 2012, Alakija, a married mother-of-four, challenged the acquisition and the Nigerian Supreme Court reinstated the 50 per cent stake to her company.
She also has a charity called the Rose of Sharon foundation that helps widows and orphans by empowering them through scholarships and business grants.

2013's highest-paid DJ Is Calvin Harris

According to 2013 Forbes Magazine, Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris has toppled the Dutch titan Tiësto as the best-paid DJ in 2013. The Dj reportedly raked in $46 million over the last year, easily besting not only peers such as David Guetta and Swedish House Mafiabut also nearly all his pop and hip-hop peers.
His tally comes from his $200,000-and-up nightly DJ fees, an enviable publishing deal, his "18 Months" album and his production work on Rihanna's smash singles "We Found Love" and "Where Have You Been?" His take is more than twice what last year's top-earner, Tiësto, pulled over the same period in 2012, suggesting that EDM's fire hose of money isn't slowing down any time soon.

The World's Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples

It’s been a tough year for celebrity couples. From Katy Perry and Russell Brand to Heidi Klum and Seal to Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and, ultimately, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the love affairs of the rich and famous seem to be falling apart everywhere these days. Still, there are some couples out there in Tinseltown and beyond who have not only managed to stay strong but are also laughing all the way to the bank together.

JAY-Z AND BEYONCE

Take Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, for example. Last year’s runners-up on the list of The World’s Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples, the duo has now climbed one spot to top this year’s ranking. Knowles, who took a break from her hectic touring schedule in 2011 to give birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter, still collects big paychecks from old hits. Besides, the singer’s new album went platinum in the U.S., not to mention her non-musical ventures and endorsement deals, which all helped to bring her total earnings between May 1, 2011 and May 1, 2012 to $40 million, according to data from the latest Celebrity 100 list.

And as the male half of music’s first couple, Jay-Z isn’t far behind his wife. The hip-hop mogul made millions from Watch the Throne, his musical collaboration with pal Kanye West, and even more from the tour that followed. Add to that a bevy of non-musical enterprises such as ad firm Translation and cosmetics company Carol’s Daughter and the result is a staggering $38 million that he has brought home in twelve months, putting the couple’s annual income at $78 million.

GISELE BUNDCHEN AND TOM BRADY

Coming second on the list are last year’s winners Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. The 32-year-old supermodel remains an unparalleled force within the fashion industry, racking up modeling gigs, endorsement deals and independent licensing ventures that bank her some $45 million a year. Brady, on the other side, this year became just the second quarterback after John Elway to lead his team to five Super Bowls, only to be defeated at the hands of the New York Giants and failing to win a fourth ring.

Don’t feel sorry for him, though. Apart from his four-year, $72 million contract extension with the New England Patriots that runs through 2014, Brady is also following on his wife’s footsteps and signing modeling gigs with the likes of Under Armour and UGG Boots. On the field and off it, he made $27 million, hauling a total of $72 million along with Bundchen between May 2011 and May 2012.

DAVID BECKHAM AND VICTORIA BECKHAM

The other royal couple from England, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham grabbed the third place on the list. Still strong on his hard quest to popularize soccer in America, Beckham re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS in January for another two years. But the player’s pot of gold is his endorsement portfolio, which includes Burger King, Sainsbury’s and Samsung. As the world’s highest-paid soccer player, he makes about $46 million a year.

And it seems like Mrs. Beckham, who’s preparing for a Spice Girls reunion performance at the London Olympics, is on her way to catching up with her husband when it comes to earnings, thanks to her passion for fashion. Victoria’s eponymous clothing range is a success, generating over $40 million annually in sales, with growth at double-digit rate. Victoria’s kickback on her fashion line of wool dresses and $3,000 purses, plus other sources of income such as royalties from Spice Girls’ hits, puts her annual earnings at $8 million–a total of $54 million for the Beckhams.

BRAD PITT AND ANGELINA JOLIE

Hollywood’s most famous couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, came in fourth on the list, with a combined $45 million annual income. Pitt earned his third Oscar nomination this year for Moneyball, but yet the bigger news was his proposal to long-time partner Jolie. Balancing arty pictures like Tree of Life with his life as a tabloid target, he folded about $25 million. Also a tabloid-friendly celebrity, Jolie earns millions from big studio flicks, residuals and endorsement deals for companies like Louis Vuitton. Only between May 2011 and May 2012, the actress cashed in some $20 million.

WILL SMITH AND JADA PINKETT SMITH

Last but certainly not least are superstar Will Smith and his wife, the also actress Jada Pinkett Smith. After taking a short break from the big screen, Smith came back in a big way. The star of Men in Black 3 (box office: $619 million worldwide and counting) and After Earth, an upcoming science-fiction thriller film directed by M. Nigh Shyamalan which co-stars his son Jaden, Smith is one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, earning $30 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Jada also had a good year, thanks mostly to her part on the movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which grossed over $500 million worldwide. One of many celebrities to invest a combined total of $10 million in Carol’s Daughter, a line of beauty products created by Lisa Price, she has also acted as a spokesperson for the brand. Her earnings have totaled $10 million this year, making hers and Smith’s combined annual salary $40 million.

10 years from now, we’ll still be on top…I thought I told you that we won’t stop’ – (Diddy on ‘Mo’ money, mo’ problems’, 1997) Well, it is way over 10 years, precisely 15 years now, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is still on top as he has been announced by Forbes.com as the wealthiest rapper alive, beating big players like Jay Z, Baby and 50 Cent.

Brooklyn rapper and entrepreneur Sean ‘Jay Z’ Carter falls second place with $460 million, producer Dr. Dre with $270 million, Cash Money C.E.O Baby with $125m and rapper 50 Cent with $100m.

Top 10 Biggest Celebrity Houses

Your home is your own space, and you can practically do anything you want there. Of course, for the celebrities, there will be nothing grander than to give their home a definition of extravagance than to make it the biggest in Hollywood.

From all walks of life, there are definitely those that started small yet now own some of the most amazing houses in the world.

Comfort is no longer an issue, and it all comes down to how large they want their abode to be. Listed below are the top ten most notable biggest celebrity houses in the world.

10. Brad Pitt

There is no truer celebrity than Brad Pitt, and one would assume that an actor like his stature would have a home that speaks of his influence.

Pitt designed his own home in Louisiana, and though his home was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, it boasted of a large private courtyard and a separate guesthouse that was two stories tall.

9. William Zysblat

Being a producer for top bands like U2 and the Rolling Stone, he has established himself to be one of those in the top with great and amazing houses.

Valued at $6.7 million, it comes with the best ocean front views and heated pools. Moreover, it has these sets of tennis and bocce courts that are perfect for the sports loving people.

8. Tony Hawk

Sports athletes can also boast of a house that speaks of millions of dollars, and Tony Hawk is one that has this.

Behind the 5,000 square foot house is the 4,000 square feet skate park. The park comes with the railing features, the center pyramid, and the ledges for the benches, a complete set for a skateboarding legend.

As a sports addict, it only goes to say that a basketball court and a swimming pool must be part of the estate.

7. John Travolta

There is nothing more extravagant to the home than to have your own airfield, and the 70s star, John Travolta, would boast of having one.

The actual airstrip outside his home measures to 1.4 miles, which ensures that even the Boeing 707 can land there.

With a six-bedroom house and a 6,500-garage facility, it is seen as modern and contemporary at the same time. After all, it could be rare for a person to own a house with a runway

6. Joel Horowitz

When it comes to celebrities, it is not just limited to the TV and movie personalities alone.

There are even the magnates that will come out at the top of the list of biggest houses, and Joel Horowitz, part founder of Tommy Hilfiger, owns one near Lake Tahoe in Las Vegas.

Spawning around 20,000 square feet for the house itself, it comes with the indoor swimming pool, an atrium, and the 19 seat home theater. European influence is the main concept for the home, and it is valued for around $100 million.

5. Ryan Seacrest

With over ten years of proven experience in hosting one of America’s most popular talent shows, it only goes to say you must have the house to go along with it.

In fact, Ryan Seacrest owns this quaint yet rambling house on the hills of Hollywood that is called as Casa di Pace or the House of Peace. Measuring 10,000 square feet, it comes with five bedrooms, billiard rooms and a tennis court. Plus, it comes with a spa and a gym!

4. Jerry Seinfeld

One of the biggest names in TV in the 1990s, it only goes to say that Seinfeld just had to get the perfect house to support his name.

Purchased from Billy Joel in 2000 for a record-breaking amount of $32 million, it comes with the waterfront manor appeal that is considered as majestic. Measuring to 14 acres of landscape, the actual house is spread to three buildings with 24 rooms, 8 fully furnished baths, and 5 semi-furnished ones.

3. Madonna

Some celebrities wanted new houses and grander designs. However, if you want a classic and elegant home, it would be that house that will have stood for centuries.

Ashcombe is Madonna’s pride and glory in England, and the last owner was Cecil Beaton, a well-renowned photographer. Privacy is the best description for the mansion that sits on the grounds of the lush landscapes and green valleys.

2. George Clooney When you think of s*xy, it means George Clooney. Situated in Italy, this villa, called Villa Oleandra, is considerably large for a bachelor.

However, as a single man with nothing to spend his money on, he is certainly more than capable of having this villa installed with an outdoor theater, swimming pool, and a huge garage where Clooney can park all his favorite cars and motorcycles in.

1. Oprah Winfrey

Considered as one of the most influential women in the world, it would seem perfect that she must also have the perfect house and domain.

Located in Santa Barbara in California, Oprah’s house spans 23,000 square feet and includes six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms and an entertainment home theater.

If there is one thing that will make her house stand apart to be unique, it is the fact she had a manmade lake built on it. In addition, it is considered as one of the most eco-friendliest house in the region.
