What are you working on at the moment?
I have a lot up my sleeves and I choose to keep them to myself for now. Let’s say I am still in the kitchen, when the food is ready it will be served to my fans. But I promise you that todaysgist will be the first to know. I will give you a clue. It’s all about making history, touching lives and a legacy I can leave for my children.
Which awards were you nominated for?
City people’s award’s best new actor of the year, Nollywood Movies Awards’ best actor in a supporting role (Nkwocha), Nollywdreinvntd awards’ best young actor of the year, coming up soon.
Do you plan to produce someday?
That’s a sure thing. Remember, wherever you are is never enough. So one needs to expand in whichever field he finds himself. But sincerely, I got eyes for directing. I study a lot on that field. God keeps us alive.
How do you keep fit?
(Laughs) anyways, I exercise a lot and I stay away from alcohol and smoking and also take a lot of water.
Your most challenging role?
All roles are challenging but sincerely, I will give that to deeper than faces where I played the character of Ojadike also starring Tonto Dikeh, Uche Elendu, Pete Edochie and directed by the Spartan Tchidi Chikere. I would say this was most challenging because of the drilling I received from the director. I was actually asked to deliver word for word from the script, which wasn’t easy at all coupled with the fact that I just entered Nollywood, but today I thank God for the doors that movie opened for me.
Best kiss on set and with which actress?
Hmmm, now that’s a hard one. I would say mad s*x with Ini Edo.
Is Junior Pope your real name?
I have been asked this question more than a million times, and the answer remains same, yes. I was born and bred in Cameroon at the time Pope John Paul 2 visited Cameroon. I was named after him.
For those who still doubt that you’re Igbo, would you mind telling us where you are from?
I rep Ukehe my home town in Enugu state.
Message to colleagues.
In the process of gaining our rightful place in the industry, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our taste for stardom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. One love.
Message to up-and-coming artists.
The industry is military. You have to be a soldier. You have to chase the rabbit if you want the tail but always look up to your creator.
To my fans.
Thanks a lot for your prayers, supports, and well-wishes. I couldn’t have done it alone without having dedicated fans given to me by God. I won’t let you down. I love you all.
Todaysgist wishes you the best.
