See All Photos From Charly Boy's Father's Burial And His Two Virgins : Explains Awkward Church Appearance

The area father as he his popularly called, Charly boy in a new interview with Vanguard, explained the drama that unfolded between him and Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Read excerpts:
It made headlines last Saturday that you snatched the microphone from Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo State, at the funeral service. What informed your action?
I didn’t embarrass him. I only insisted that I wouldn’t tolerate people with bad political breath to preside over my father’s burial rites. The corpse belonged to the Oputa family, and not the state or federal government.

Being Charley Boy, my action creates a lot of controversies. I am not a politician and I can never be one.I don’t do things the way every other person would want to do them. My own things are bound to be a little different. Integrity is my watchword and when I give you my word, you can go to sleep. I expect same from people who deal with me. I didn’t understand why somebody would graciously choose to assist us by making a donation to the family  and thereafter, they went on air to announce it.  That  was not a gentleman action and it was what really angered me.

Secondly, three days after my father’s death, I sounded a note of warning that it won’t turn to a political thing. You know the kind of father I had, and what he stood for. I don’t want them to politicize his burial rites. After they made the donation, and I never denied that they didn’t give us money. But I was embarrassed that they were announcing it over the radio and in the pages of newspapers.

If you are doing something with the family, first of all, we are the chief mourner, as well as Governor Rochas Okorocha, but it would be proper that they confide in the family in whatever they were planning to do in respect of the burial rites. If there is something we can bring to the table to enhance it, then it would be to the credit of the governor. But he didn’t do that and they were all shifty. We didn’t know what they were planning, they didn’t care to know what we were planning.

Was it what informed your action at the funeral service?
First of all, I am not a church goer. I am a Buddhist, though I was born into the Catholic doctrine. And part of my reason for not going to church is the fact that I have been to a lot of churches. For the first 20 years of my life, I was a mass servant. I was an ‘altar boy’ because my father was a disciplinarian.  If you don’t go to morning mass, you are bound to be in trouble.

I did all that for 20 years, and that’s the kind of background I was coming from. But things have changed regarding the mode of worship in most churches. They spend more time than necessary. Why should we be praying for two to three hours non-stop? I have other things to do.  At the funeral service, I was told that Mr. President’s representatives and other dignitaries have arrived my home town.

Unfortuantely, one of my legs was paining me, and that was why, if you were in church that day, I was sitting down throughout. People didn’t understand why I was sitting down. I couldn’t stand up for too long. Now, we have spent about two to three hours in the church. We couldn’t afford to give all the politicians that attended the funeral rites the opportunity to pay tribute to my late father. I felt the only person who should deliver a speech was Mr. President’s representative.

At that point, I was so stressed and tired. All I wanted was to commit my father’s remains into the mother earth. So, I insisted, as  the eldest son  of Justice Oputa, I decide how things were going to be done. At that point, I said please, no more talk, it’s too much, let one person speak so we can go and finish the business. That was what happened but you know people will misinterpret it. That is their business, not mine.

Touching!!! Charly Boy Narrates How His Father Died

Popular socialiate, Charly Boy Oputa who lost his father on the 4th of May, this year, has revealed the shock he felt when he heard his father was no more, he narrated how it happened.

"He was in the village when he was hit by stroke on February 14, 2014. At about 3: 30pm, I got a call from one of his aides informing me of what had happened. It was a Friday; one of my daughters had just come back from the US a few days before. So, I sent her and my brother immediately to Owerri to assess the situation till I get myself together and arrive on Monday.

I didn't sleep from Friday to Monday morning. I was in a trance; the worse seized my mind. I cried when I was alone, in my household it was as if he had already passed, my father had never been sick, never! It was the most painful time in my life, the thought of losing my father, my best friend, was too much to deal with. But typical of me, by Monday as I headed to the airport to catch the flight to Owerri, I was mentally ready for the worst. By the time I saw my father in the hospital, I was devastated, it took all the courage to hold back the tears.

Then I knew it was down hill from there. I knew it was a matter of time, but I was ever determined to do all I could for my best friend. Since childhood I have always had that sharp instinct, intuition or premonition about things and people. I should have been dead long time ago, living the kind of life I had once lived, but I have survived because of this gift from God" he said. source

Controversial Celebrity Suffering From Depression, Says“ I Can’t Sleep At Night, I’m Running Low On Cash”

Arguably Nigeria’s most controversial TV personality, 'The Area Fada'- Mr Charly Boy Oputa aka Charlie Boy is battling despair over what he termed Financial hardship.

In his recent article titled ‘Escape from the Wilderness’, read what Charlie Boy wrote:

Does anyone know how I really feel right now? So alone and empty, God! how I feel the pain. If you’re in the wilderness like me, then you know it can be insane. Here, my eyes are bleeding tears and my smiles are protecting my fears. I can’t even go around and fake happy, because I’m in stagnation and it is hitting me from all directions. There is this disturbing feeling that time is passing me by, yet I’m paralyzed, I can’t move and I can’t think too far. At nights I can’t sleep too easy, my heart is sore and my mind perpetually clustered with things that leave me shaking. Oh!!! God why? I have prayed I have fasted but nothing has changed, it’s almost a year now.

My dreams are nothing but nightmares of all the negatives in this wilderness. What’s happening to me? Look at me, I have always enjoyed comforting and giving directions to people in pain, right now I can’t even save myself and I have refused to take my own pills.Na so life be? On top of all of this, I’m so f…..king broke it’s a shame. No! It’s not just that I’m low in cash, but most importantly, it is about being in this state of helplessness, I’m not too proud to ask anyone for favour, but who will believe I need financial help when they have put me on such a high pedestal.

Wow, is this a case of Grace to Grass? Who would guess I’m dying slowly when all they can see is my biceps and triceps. I have always been the joy giver, I have put smiles on millions of faces and have inspired and motivated an army of youths, yet I can’t seem to talk myself out of this rot, out of this wilderness, hummmmm!! Why won’t this feeling of hopelessness leave me alone, I know I can do more than I’m doing for now, I know I deserve more. Too many times I have asked God, why me, why do I have to go through this wilderness. I am hardworking, forward looking, positive thinking, so why do I have to suffer like this. Is it the system or is it me, what the heck is this dark cloud that has come over me.

I no longer look forward to tomorrow or getting out of my bed, because a new day comes without hope. Nothing seems to make sense anymore; nothing around me inspires me again. I feel like I’m vegetating, I feel as if I I’m glued to this limbo, with no hope of an escape. Now I’m hugging myself, not sharing myself with my loved ones because I am suddenly taking out my frustrations on the people around me. Oh! Lord I must take control of my life; again, I must escape from this wilderness.Does this sound a bit or a lot like your story right now? Are you in that dark place in your life, where everything more or less seems to be grinding to a halt and you don’t know what to do? Well, it happens to the best of us.

I have learnt that in all things, one should give thanks. Most of the time we are not entirely grateful for what we possess, because we always believe that we need more than we have right now. If this is the case, we will continue to need more. This cycle will perpetuate as long as our mind believes it’s true. If we focus on what we have and not what we lack, we will always have enough, because it will always be enough. Yes, it is hard to stay cool when things are not sitting right, the way we would like in our lives. We are the ones who lose in the end, if we lose the lesson. Shey you dey feel my yarn? In this wilderness I have learnt that a rich man is not someone who has the most, but someone who needs the least.

Yesooooooo!!!!! I’m sharing all this with you so I can feel lighter. We will always have problems, often tested by circumstances outside our control, but we certainly can control our reaction to those situations. We have the power because our inner world (cause) affects the influence we allow the outer world (effect) to have on us. Being in the wilderness is always a result of anxiety about the uncertain future. So, let’s stop and ask ourselves.

“What’s the specific uncertainty that is causing you to be afraid” once you have identified that uncertainty, it is usually easier to simply accept its presence in your life, just for the time being. I know that life is about the journey and not the arrival. We don’t need to arrive if we accept that we are already there. Not everyone woke up this morning and not everyone is going to bed tonight. Life has no guarantees; every minute we are living is a blessing that has to be experienced in the moment. It’s not always easy, but it’s always an option or a choice.

Charly Boy's Message to all single ladies

Charly boy shares some father-daughter gist with the single ladies out there. Read and note, you might just need this to lift the pressure of not finding a man early off your shoulder.
All the single ladies reading this, chin-up and give your good self a thumb up. Nothing doest thou. Last week I had a father/daughter discussion with my Princess. I could feel the frustration in her tone as we spoke about different issues. When I asked about her boyfriend she gave me a very long and irritated “Naija babe” hiss, she aired out her frustrations with this whole dating business. "Daddy we are no longer dating." “I’m so very sorry my love, but what happened I queried,” very anxious to hear the gist, cause me and my Princess are just that close. This is my daughter’s 3rd boyfriend since she started dating, and she has only been with him for barely 6months… "Daddy, please I’m tired, he is not ambitious, he has no drive, and he is too laid back for his own good, how can I marry a man like that? To make matters worse, he thinks I am overly ambitious, he says I do way too much – please tell me how that’s a bad thing.” Hummmmm, my daughter, my princess my pride and joy is unhappy.
You see since childhood, my Princess has been very independent, very focused and determined - no nonsense kind of ‘chic’, (can an apple fall too far from its tree). She is intelligent and extremely hardworking, I mean what more could a man ask for in a woman? Quickly, I was thinking of how to calm my ticked off Princess down. "Darling, you know daddy will always love you no matter what, most importantly you know damn too well that you are not under any pressure to get married. So be patient, concentrate on your carrier and yourself my darling, he will come when he comes, and if he doesn't come, have your baby, I wouldn't mind another grandchild." Did I really say that? Oh! Yes I did, and I meant that.

Single ladies are on the rise these days, because for a long time coming, there has been an explosion of male joblessness in Nigeria and the world over. There has also been a decline in men's life prospects that have disrupted and distorted the dating or the "marriage market", in a way that narrows a marriage minded woman's options. Today all the Nigerian single "good" ladies who are desirous to settle down are at a cross road in their dating life, most of them are simply tired, a lot are frustrated and many are giving up. Their options are really limited; it is mostly between the millions of Gigolos or the deadbeat, some of who are pretending that they are waiting for Jesus before they get it together; those who don't have ambition burning in their soul. I can't believe that I told my daughter to go ahead and have a baby out of wedlock. Well, with the way things are playing out in our environment, it is time we embraced new ideas about dating and marriage. Society’s highest institution called "Marriage" is fast becoming old fashioned and outdated. Look around and see the alarming rate of divorce matters all over the place, something is definitely wrong my people. At this rate, falling in love and getting married will be a question of choice rather than societal expectation or luck. Frankly speaking, women have climbed so high in their independence and career and are doing way better than the men. Men have been falling behind with amazing alacrity. Good single women are so disappointed and it’s unimaginable, it's like going to a party that has been the talk of the town for long. You buy your new dress hoping to show off at the party, but by the time you land, they tell you that all the good people have left, and the ones left are really the servants, their friends or relatives who have come to scavenge on the left over food. Believe it or not, that's the situation today, no kidding.

Since the days of my grandfather, marriage has been primarily an economic and political contract between 2 families, prized and policed by families, relatives and community. That’s why in my village, they will tell you "no be only your wife/husband you they marryoooooo" Things have changed since then, most of our dates are from facebook, bb chat, online dating, the hocus-pocus church called Pentecostals, etc. There is no doubt in my mind that we are in the midst of an extraordinary change. The transformation of young outstanding women, considered marriage material, is momentous, immensely liberating and immensely scary for prospective suitors. All the old ways are breaking down, these days ladies want to be in-charge of their lives, you can't blame them. Forget about the days of being submissive, na for your pocket. Forget about marriage vows where it says about obeying your husbands, hummmm joor, they are not slaves, understanding works better. Do they need husbands to have babies these days? Please don't get this twisted, marriage is divine and sweet when you can not only find a soul mate, but someone who can inspire you, respect you, love you, adore your feminity and independence. They are hard to find oooooo. My daughter knows that finding a good man is like finding a needle in a haystack. None the less, should women feel psychologically defeated? Hell No! Most men who don't know what time it is are still locked down with that old macho bullshit, that it is a Man’s world. Hummmmm for where, my people, women run things now, let’s get used to it, abegi, so our days on earth will be longer joor.

My princess, my baby, my joy, my little big girl knows that her character, her pedigree, her background, her ambition, her zeal and courage will most likely intimidate a lot of men out there, she realizes that this will further narrow her pool of prospects, just like she is also aware that with each passing year she is getting older and never younger but the options stay very limited. All I’m trying to say is this, I tip my hat for all the "good" single ladies out there, keep the fate, I admire your courage in not wanting to settle for any trash out there. If it doesn't fit, trash it, finding a life time partner is not ‘moimoi’. The world is already too troubled for you to be in a relationship that you know will not make you happy. Women can see these things ahead you know, that's why they are a special breed of God’s creation. I have discovered lately that men need women in their lives to keep them stable, but if push comes to a shove, women don't really need men, a case in point, ‘The great Oprah’. Yes, good men are hard to find, ask Lady D. Ha!!
