Camera Flashes Make People Think I Bleach—Yvonne Nelson(See before-after Photos)

Top Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson is one of the most controversial actress in Ghollywood/Nollywood. She can make us believe anything she wants us to believe even when the truth is starring us in the face.  Recall that some months ago, she was in a rumoured affair with Nigerian singer and debut winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa, Iyanya Mbuk. 

Even though she earlier denied having any romantic affair with Iyanya, despite pictures showing the two of them together at a beach and the singer mentioning her name repeatedly in one of his hit tracks, ‘Your Waist’, but when the relationship turned sour, she publicly ranted and accused her Nigerian lover of being a cheat. She further disclosed then that she was dumped for another actress, though a Nigerian, who many believe is Tonto Dikeh. 

Yvonne has also been accused of bleaching her skin, an allegation she has also denied. 

Speaking on this issue last week, the actress maintained that she did not use any bleaching cream on her skin, explaining that camera flashes and filters make pictures she posts on the internet look like she applied a lighting cream on her skin. The actress lamented that she is tired of explaining to people that she did not bleach her skin contrary to what many believe.

Bleaching in Africa is what is frowned at, but it is gradually becoming the norm. Dencia, a Cameroonian singer, was accused of selling a bleaching cream, but she has kicked against this, claiming her product was not made to bleach skins of its users. 

In Nollywood, most actresses prefer to appear ‘white’ as that seems to be the criteria for becoming a mega star. Recently, Cynthia Morgan, a female artiste in Nigeria, was criticized for her change of colour, likewise Thelma O’Khaz, an actress in Nigeria, who said her controversial picture as a result of studio works.

Thelma O'Khaz Not Done, She Wants A Nose Job Also!!!

As if the bashing she got from Nigerians isn't enough after photos of her bleaching, sorry whitening surfaced, the controversial actress has just added salt to injury. She said she is looking for a good surgeon who can give her a nose job. I guess it's her life and she can do what she wants with it, we don't just want her to pass this trait unto upcoming generation.

Whitenicious Is not a bleaching cream and it doesn't cause Cancer- Dencia

Nigeria Singer Dencia and owner of the controversial skin care product "Whitenicious" has come out to debunk the rumor that  her beauty product causes cancer after bleaching the skin.Therefore she is threatening to sue any media outfits spreading false info about her product.

Dencia has said many times that her skincare product Whitenicious isn't a bleaching cream but for dark spots, hyper pigmentation and for other little parts of the body. She took to Twitter a few hours ago to lash out and warn media platforms that insists it's a bleaching cream that can cause cancer.

Yesterday we showed you the shocking photos of Nollywood photos of actress Thelma O'kaz who bleached till she is now even whiter than white people. It seems the men are also interesting in becoming white too.

Nollywood  Actor Benson Okonkwo  has denied using lightening product (bleaching cream) to enhance his complexion on several ocassion,  he further explained that his fresh skin is the result of drinking lots of water and constant visitation to the gym. Nollywood Actress Thelma O'Kaz Now White!!! Bleached Her Beauty Away(see pics)

It is a pity African ladies, especially Nigerian ladies are deluded into thinking they are beautiful when they become white. No, they are not even close to it.A clear case of misguided transformation is that of former beautiful Nollywood actress Thelma  O' Kaz who turned herself white and lost that eccentric look that made her beautiful.

 I hope ladies doing this can look at themselves in the mirror and see the damage they are doing by injecting funny chemicals into their skin or buying creams that erases Melanin from their skin.We are not judging them trying to tell the upcoming African ladies that black is our color and they should be proud of it, afterall the adage "black is beautiful is correct"

Exposed: The Dangers Skin Bleaching Nigerian Women Will Face (VIDEO)

I wonder why it took so long for a documentary to be made about this. Thanks to CNN, they have shown the world how Nigerians especially the ladies spend so much money to tone their skin and more importantly exposed their skin to dangerous and banned substances.

Cosmetic skin bleaches are all the vogue, but the risks may outweigh the perceived benefits.

Fair and white, that's exactly what Lilian Irek would like to be. And the makers of fair and white and other skin lightening creams tell us that business has never been better.

The business of beauty is booming in Lagos, Nigeria. In fact, the World Health Organization says that 77 percent of Nigerian women use skin bleaching or skin-toning cosmetics, something that dermatologists say can be damaging to skin long-term.

The women CNN spoke with in one beauty shop say for them, it doesn't matter. It's all about looking good.

"When you're fair, people easily notice you, you're noticed everywhere, but when you're dark it will be a bit difficult for people to notice you," said Selina Nkwocha, sales representative for Kuddy Cosmetics.

However, just like tanning in the west, when not used properly, bleaching can have devastating effects on health. The main component in the cream is hydroquinone, a chemical the European Union and Japan have banned in cosmetics.

A spokesperson for Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration tells CNN it allows a maximum of two percent hydroquinone in cosmetics. That's in line with over-the-counter so-called "brightening products" in the U.S. and Canada.

While these products are fine for removing blemishes and dark spots, the agency it tries to educate people about the hazards of prolonged bleaching.

Reporter: "Hydroquinone is a dangerous substance?"

"Yes, that's one of the dangerous substances," said Dr. Yetunde Mercy Olumide, dermatologist and professor emeritus with the University of Lagos.

Specifically, doctors here say hydroquinone can be harmful because it makes the skin lose its elasticity. That can cause complications during surgeries and caesarean childbirths.

"The abdominal suture line doesn't heal, so you find what we call burst abdomen. I've seen it live, no stories, you know, and of course what follows, overwhelming infection, shock, and they die," said Dr. Olumide.

Still, even women who know the risks are buying, and Nigerian society's attitude towards light skin, is just driving this trend.

"For me personally I like lighter skin women," said Cyril Okoi.

Reporter: "What would you tell a young girl or a young woman that is attracted to the idea of bleaching their skin?"

"I would say first of all, primarily, I would want to tell them black is beautiful," said Dr. Olumide.
