The 19-year-old midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe was breathalysed after the afternoon crash and arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
According to witnesses he lost control of the luxury black Range Rover as he took it for a spin round an industrial estate.
He allegedly hurtled into a stationary van, shunting it 30ft into a wall. One onlooker said the young Red Devil looked “white as a ghost” as cops raced to the scene in Heywood, Manchester.
A witness said: “He skidded on the wet road.
“A mate told me he’d only just picked up the keys. He hit a van and pushed it into a wall, making a terrible screeching sound.”
The onlooker, who said the speed limit was 30mph, added: “He’s hit it with real force because both vehicles looked like write-offs.
Ryan looked really shaken up.”
Police confirmed that a driver had been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Tunnicliffe’s dad wagered £100 at 100-1 when he was nine that he would one day play for United’s first team. He came on as a 77th-minute substitute for Wayne Rooney in a cup match last month.
