Sultry and one of Nollywood’s most controversies happy actress, Tonto Dikeh, who prefers to be called Poko is in the news again, this time, the Ikwerre born role interpreter is making the headlines for the good reason.
The 2006 Next Movie Star runner up had a nice time out with some exceptional children at a gathering in Ogba on Sunday December 11, which was tagged Tonto Dikeh With Exceptional Children.
The children, according to Tonto were called exceptional children based on their academic performance in their schools. They were children who came first, second and third positions in their respective schools.
Over 60 children were treated to a nice time with Tonto and showered with lots of fun, gifts, food to eat and drinks. Two children won educational scholarships from Tonto, with a three year old boy, Oluwajimi Omoba Bayodebot going home with a four year scholarship, while Ibitayo Adeyemo won a two year scholarship.
According to Tonto, she promised to put the two children in one of the best schools in the land, and make the children go to the dreams schools of their parents.
When NEWSMEN asked what happens if such parents cannot afford the fees of such schools after the initial scholarship runs out, Poko simply said, I have more plans for them, if I say I am giving a two or four year scholarship, it doesn’t mean that it is going to end at that.
“I will definitely going to provide a means for them to go ahead; I might probably continue to sponsor the rest of their educational careers. But this is what I am led to do at the moment.”
Speaking with NEWSMEN, Ibitayo, one of the winners said, I want to say thank you to Aunty Tonto, and may the Lord bless her. On the part of the three year old Jimi, he simply said, thank you to Aunty Tonto.
This is the first time Tonto would be doing such in Nigeria, as she said she has been doing this kind of gesture outside Nigeria for some time now, but feels happy to be doing this now in Nigeria.
According to her, she was moved to this, having taken a reflection to her childhood, where her dad rewards his children’s excellence at the end of their academic year. To her, this is just a way of taking her father’s step.
