Mercy Johnson, To Sue Vanguard Newspaper

If what we are getting is anything to go by, then Mercy Johnson’s first real romance with the media after her controversial marriage to Edo Prince, Odi Okojie, would be a legal tussle with Vanguard Newspaper, a Lagos based national daily, over a recent publication by the newspaper last month.

On September 30, the paper published a story with the headline ‘Mercy Johnson’s Story Resurrects In Two Brides And A Baby.’ Two Brides And A Baby is a movie produced by Blessing Effiom Egbe, which is billed to be premiered at the cinemas next month.

The story had its introductory part as “Come 17th of November 2011, Two Brides And A Baby, a new movie starring Mercy Johnson as one of the lead acts premieres.” The story had linked the movie with the marriage saga preceding the eventual wedding of Mercy Johnson to Prince Okojie on August 27 this year.

According to a part of the publication, it posited that, “Those in the know have sworn that it is the true life story of Mercy Johnson who recently wedded Prince Odianosen Okojie amidst controversies.” This position has been denied by Blessing who stated that the movie is not in anyway anything about the pre-marriage brouhaha of Mercy Johnson.

Making her anger known on the said publication, Blessing vehemently said, “Some Journalists need to be flogged. Get your facts rights before you put down your pen on paper. Some of us really do take out time to read about what concerns us. Mercy Johnson did not act in the movie. The issue is don’t report false news, Mercy Johnson is a fantastic actress, but she is not in the movie.

So, why say she is?” If you think Blessing stopped there, then you are wrong, as she took a pounce on the judiciary arm of our government when she said, “I don’t know why our judiciary arm of government is not as active, most of the craps happening would have long be tamed. Mercy [Johnson] would sue so would I. We need some sanity in this industry. Make una leave me for my own corner o before I take out somebody.”
