Read why Clarion Chukwurah pulled out from AGN presidential race

It seems the rift between Nollywood actresses Clarion and Ibinabo has been settled. A few weeks ago, Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwurah, in an interview with NET, condemned the present administration of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria and revealed her intention to run for its presidency come September 2014.‎

Chukwurah’s outburst sparked controversy, including an open letter from the current AGN President, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who, while defending herself, went as far as calling Chukwurah  ‘hysterical and attention seeking’. However, there seems to be a new twist in the story, as Encomium Weekly magazine recently reported that Chukwurah has said she isn’t running for the Presidency of the guild anymore, ‘I cannot run for AGN presidency as the guild is right now’, she reportedly said.

When our correspondent reached out to her, the 50-year-old mother of two denied making that comment, but maintained that there needs to be a change in the guild’s board of trustees, who she says are a major setback to the body’s progress. ‘I only said the structure needs an overhaul from the board of trustees down before a commerce driven programme can work as the guild has become politicized‘, Chukwurah said, somewhat cancelling out any intention to run for the AGN’s number spot.

Clarion Chukwura opens up On Beef With AGN President, Ibinabo Fiberesima

That there is serious beef between Ibinabo and Clarion Chukwura about the activities of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is no news but what is news is the actions taken by Ibinabo that led to the beef.
Clarion Chukwurah has seriously condemned AGN’s visit to Aso Rock led by Ibinabo Fiberesima .She has been accused by some of being jealous or trying to bring another woman down.In a new interview with Encomuim she states her reasons clearly
Thank you very much.  It gives me a great concern that we continue to face this kind of issue in this country.  Rather than determine the merit of the issues that are being raised, people will misdirect the whole point to be a personality attack. I do not have anything whatsoever against Ibinabo Fiberesima.  Ibinabo as a person is a friend of mine.  I have known her since the 80s when she was running a night club.  So, Ibinabo Fiberesima, as a person, is not the issue.  The issue is that she succeeded in a very commendable field which is accessing an appointment to see the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at a time like this when the President is engaged in all fronts.  It was a mighty opportunity that was given to her on a platter of gold.

My grouse is what did she do with it?  It’s about the Actors Guild of Nigeria.  Ibinabo Fiberesima led a delegation to see the President as AGN president. This is the constitution as amended for her (shows reporter a copy), which part of this constitution did she use that visit to actualize?  She asked for political appointment which is an attempt to destroy the guild. AGN is not a group established for lobbying for political offices. This is an association of creative people not politicians.
The constitution says, ‘We, the actors of the acting profession in Nigeria.” We’re not politicians, so AGN is not a political group.  Actors are creative people.  You did not ask the president to look into the private sector fulfilling what’s in the Nigerian constitution for the art in Nigeria for AGN, by speaking out that in the Nigerian constitution there is a proviso that once you’re running a business, a private company that’s a conglomerate or corporation or whatever, you have to be investing a certain percentage of your earnings into the art.
That is supposed to cut down your tax one way or the other.  This industry started as commerce driven, it didn’t start as a political party.  You didn’t ask the president for support on issues of legislation that could bring all the screen actors in Nigeria under one single body so that an enabling environment could be put in place for casting agencies for jobs for actors.  You went there to ask for a political appointment and a national secretariat in Abuja.
And more shocking that she led a delegation that didn’t have veterans, she led a team, which some of them were said they were not privy to the fact that she was going to read an address, asking for all these things.  So, be that as it may, that has happened.  But it has to be corrected.

Ex-Convict Cannot Rule AGN—Emeka Ike ----Drags Emma Oguguah To Police Again, Emeka Rollas Accepts Ibinabo As President

It is no news that Fiberesima Ibinabo has emerged the new president of troubled Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) but that her administration might again be crisis ridden just like the past two might be news.

This is because popular actor, Emeka Ike is set for a showdown to continue his fight, which nearly wrecked the tenure Segun Arinze, who resigned as the president in April 2012 after a scuffled election in Benin City, Edo State.

At the election help on September 27, 2012 which brought Ibinabo into office, Emeka reportedly stormed the guild’s secretariat in Lagos to arrest the vice chairman of AGN’s BOT, Emma Oguguah and took him to Zone 2 police headquarters in Lagos.

Last week Thursday, Emeka, Ibinabo, Emma and their lawyers were at the Zone 2 headquarters over the case. Both Emeka and Emma claimed threat to lives on each other. Efforts to broker peace between the parties failed.

While Ibinabo offered Emeka to work in her government in order to move the guild forward, Emeka asked if Ibinabo has cleared her served her jailed term. He further asked if the manslaughter charge on her has finally been settled which Ibinabo rightly affirmed she has been cleared of.

Speaking with newsmen, Emeka stated that an ex-convict cannot rule the Guild. He said that he is not interested in ruling AGN but was only fighting that the Guild be saved from the hands of Emma, who he claimed, has solely held the Guild in his hands.

Meanwhile, Emeka Rollas has finally accepted Ibinabo as the president elect. Ibinabo is barely two weeks in office now, will her aim of bringing back A-list Nollywood stars back into AGN be achieved with the enormous crises before her? Time will tell.

Emeka Rollas becomes the 7th President of Actors Guild of Nigeria

Actors' Guild National Electoral Commission (AGNEC) just announced that E

meka Rollas is the new national president of the Actors' Guild of Nigeria. He defeated former beauty queen and actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima with 81 votes to 76.

 Big Congrats to him!!!

Dickson Iroegbu is only against subsidy removal because we did not give him N2 million – AGN

Actors Guild’s of Nigeria (AGN) has gone on offensive against one of its own. If you’ve been following the news since the President of AGN Segun Arinze made public his support for subsidy removal, the actor has been inundated with barrages of attacks from every angle.

The Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP) quickly held an emergency press conference and lambasted him for apparently bringing the respected name of AGN to disrepute.

During the press briefing, Dickson Iroegbu said:

“We urge the President to revert to status quo and listen to the yearnings of the masses on the streets, and save Nigeria from collapsing”.

A day later, Dickson Iroegbu told NEWSMEN “The fuel subsidy removal is an insensitive action. It’s anti-masses.”

Today, in a shocking message made available to the public, AGN is firing back, making serious accusations against Iroegbu.

Here is the message from AGN.

This is to bring to the notice of AGN members and the general public that Dickson Iroegbu, has resorted to media campaign to smear the good image of AGN and the National President, because he demanded 2 million naira from AGN during our Round Table on the 30th Dec. 2011 to support deregulation, according to him, government gave us money to organize the event.

We make bold to say that AGN did not collect from government or any agents of government to organize the conference and it was not intended to support government on deregulation but to educate our members.

Dickson Iroegbu had wanted to use AGN to defraud Nigerians and even government officials in the past.

In 2010, Dickson wanted to use AGN to stage our plateau program to raise money from unsuspecting Nigerians for his pocket, the NAT president discovered the fraudulent intent and pulled AGN out of it, (the event held and money raised how much did he give to plateau people that are still suffering till today?)

Same Dickson came to partner with AGN to produce a TV jingle for the president Jonathan during his presidential campaign, so we can use it to collect millions of naira from PDP, but we made him understand that AGN is not partner.

Dickson Iroegbu was on STV today discredited AGN as a credible association and said he will not use AGN in his film productions. Where is he going to manufacture his artists from? Don’t blackmail AGN because of N2m we do not have.

Beware of Dickson Iroegbu; he is not a friend of AGN.
